I am a filmmaker and a technologist. In 2013, I received the 60th National Film Award from the President of India for my debut documentary, A Pinch of Skin. In 2019, I was awarded a German Chancellor Fellowship for young leaders, and in 2024, I received a fellowship from the Mozilla Foundation.
As a co-founder, I have launched two organisations: Sahiyo, an international non-profit based in the US and a former charitable trust in India, and Mumkin App LLP, an ethical tech-entrepreneurship for feminist technologies.
I drew the Mumkin App from my decade-long advocacy with survivors of gender-based violence. For building the app, I led a team of app developers, UI/UX designers, and researchers. The pilot offered simulated in-app mock conversations and ran from September 2020 to August 2023, sparking global interest. Read about it on THE HUMBOLDT KOSMOS, TAZ.DE, MINT, THE WIRE, and listen to THE GOOD ROBOT PODCAST on why good technology needs a feminist community-centred design.
As a German Chancellor Fellow, I contributed to the pro-choice movement, bringing together activists from Germany, Malta, and Ireland. My work during the fellowship with Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung crystallised in several exhibitions and talks in Germany.
I am passionate about bridging inequalities, such as the underrepresentation of women and ‘subaltern’ bodies in technologies and digital platforms, and building technology and media through the lens of lived experiences.
Currently, as a Mozilla Fellow, I am researching the impact of Digital Public Infrastructures (DPIs) on marginalised populations in India, and building discourse on the implications of anthropomorphised technologies, while advocating for feminist, trauma-informed technologies.
